Mini Cooper Convertible: a mini revolution coming soon!

Mini Cooper Convertible: a mini revolution coming soon!

Here’s a sneaky peek at the brand new Mini Convertible ahead of its public debut at the 2015 Tokyo motor show.

This ‘F57’ model is the third Mini Convertible following in the tyre treads of its 2004 and 2009 predecessors.

The latest model comes in three flavours:

Mini Cooper Convertible: from £18,475. 1.5-litre 3-cyl petrol engine, 134bhp, 55mpg, 114g/km CO2, 0-62mph in 8.8sec

Mini Cooper D Convertible: from £20,225. 1.5-litre 3-cyl diesel engine, 114bhp, 70mpg, 100g/km CO2, 0-62mph in 9.9sec

Mini Cooper S Convertible: from £22,430. 2.0-litre 4-cyl petrol engine, 189bhp, 46mpg, 139g/km, 0-62mph in 7.2sec

In this latest incarnation, the fabric soft top roof - powered by electric motors and folding into a pram-style bundle on top of the bootlid - is designed to be quieter and smoother than that of the previous Mini Convertible. And it takes just 18 seconds to retract. And did we mention the optional Union Jack feature which you can choose to have woven into the fabric?

Overall, the Mark 3 Mini is roomier all round, offering a little more space in the back seats but not enough to stretch out! The boot space is roughly a quarter of the size bigger, 215 litres with the roof closed and 160 when it’s up. You can choose to free up a little more space with the standard-fit ‘Easy Load’ function which has two locking handles that allow the roof frame to be swung upwards. There’s also a through-hatch in the centre of the rear seat backs.

The new Mini come with plenty of gizmos as standard; air-conditioning, Bluetooth connectivity, rear parking sensors and a reversing camera with a 6.5in display screen. A larger display with sat-nav is an option.

Pick the ‘Mini Connected XL’ option and should you park the car with the roof open, and it can even text you automatically if rain’s forecast!

The new Mini Convertible is on display at the 2016 Tokyo motor show and will be launched in the UK in March 2016.

David Whitehead, MD of Allied Vehicle Contracts, says: "We're looking forward to the lauch of the new Mini Cooper Convertible because it's such an iconic vehicle. We've helped hundreds of customers secure finance leasing on cars from the Mini range. It remains one of the most popular choices for people of all ages and lifestyles, no doubt because it still encapsulates the mood of the 1960s, generation after generation."
